For my topic, I am hoping to talk about the Woodstock Music Festival of 1969 and the ways that it represented the hippie/counter culture of its time. This festival was named "Woodstock Music and Art Fair: 3 Days of Peace and Music" which is what it really was all about. It has been deemed one of the most pivotal moments in popular music history and was listed among Rolling Stone's 50 Moments that Changed the History of Rock.
Some main points: -ended up being a free concert because people broke the fences, intended for 200,000 people; 500,000 enjoyed the concert, many for free. -Bethel, NY- reactions from the townspeople were very interesting, some hated the hippies, some embraced them -the United States Army showed up to bring more food and medical supplies- demonstrated to the people that the Army was not their enemy- key point, many hippies were against the war and the military -Rained, was a disaster
